A body has been recovered from a Delaware canal during the search for a 6-year-old boy who went missing after an SUV accident, according to multiple reports.

Delaware Online reported that the accident occurred on the morning of Oct. 6, when an SUV with five passengers plunged into the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. The only surviving person was a 16-year-old girl, who was rescued by the SUV driver, according to WPVI 6 ABC.

Delaware Online reported that the body was found on Oct. 10 on the north side of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, according to scanner traffic.

While the police had yet to confirm the body that is that of the missing 6-year-old, Ethan Lindsey, the father of the 6-year-old took to Facebook to share that his missing son’s body had been found, according to Delaware Online.

“I just want you all to know that your prayers and condolences have been greatly appreciated and needed,” Willis Lindsey, the father of the missing Ethan Lindsey, wrote. “Through all the hard work and dedication, they have found my little man so he can be back with his brothers and cousin.”

According to earlier reports, the Lindsey family were on their way to a football game, with the parents driving a seperate vehicle ahead of the SUV carrying her three sons, 18-year-old Willis Lindsey, a 16-year-old and a 6-year-old Ethan Lindsey, her oldest son’s girlfriend, and the boys’ 12-year-old cousin. ABC 6 reported that the 18-year-old Willis Lindsey Jr. had been driving the vehicle.

“We followed the GPS right off the canal and we kind of had to make some loops and turns. We didn’t see our son behind us so we stopped and turned around. All we saw was the cloud of dust behind us and we saw his girlfriend on the rocks,” said Brandi Lindsey, the mother of the three boys.

ABC News reported that the 18-year-old driver rescued his 16-year-old girlfriend from the water and then went back for his brothers and cousin, but drowned after trying to save them. When authorities came and pulled the SUV up from the water, both the 16-year-old and the 12-year-old were pronounced dead.

“Upon the vehicle being removed from the water, the 16-year-old and the 12-year-old were located still in the vehicle and subsequently pronounced deceased. The 6-year-old was not located in the vehicle and remains unaccounted for,” according to the Delaware State Police.

According to ABC News. A family member of the Lindsey’s said that the 18-year-old driver might have made a wrong turn and ended up in the water.

Police are still not sure what caused the accident and are still investigating.
