Brexit Causes Trade Plummet, UK Economy Holds Up

Trade between the UK and the EU in January—the month after the UK left the European Union—dropped significantly. Exports to the EU were down nearly 41 percent and imports fell by nearly 29 percent.

The Office of National Statistics (ONS) says that during the previous two months, imports and exports increased, indicating stockpiling before the transition. This was most notable with machinery, transport equipment, and chemicals.
