After finding the gown of her dreams, Boissonneault lost it shortly after, due to a wildfire that devastated her Alberta community of Fort McMurray.

The fire destroyed a large part of the area leading to mass evacuations and uncertain future for the residents.

One of the difficult decisions faced by the people evacuating was what to grab while leaving their homes. We cannot imagine being in that position. Our hearts broke upon learning that Boissonneault’s dream dress was lost in the fire.

“If I had to get married in jeans and a T-shirt, that would be fine,” Boissonneault told CBC, but thanks to the kind-hearted people of Toronto, she didn’t have to.

After her friends posted a photo on Facebook of her in her original wedding dress, the post was flooded with responses from women all over the city who wanted to help the bride-to-be on her special day.

People offered her more than 100 dresses to choose from! She was offered other free services such as hairstyling and jewelry. Boissonneault was overwhelmed with the generosity of the strangers.

“You don’t expect this to happen and then for people to put out this much love and support,” said Boissonneault.

These kind gestures have inspired Boissonneault to pass on the good will. After the wedding, she plans to return to Fort McMurray as soon as possible to help people in her community.

“I didn’t think there was that kind of kindness in the world,” she said. “It’s just awesome.”
