Under lockdown measures, many people are finding peace in their vegetable patch.

An oasis in London’s suburbs, gardeners at Beckenham feel like they’re together even though they are standing apart. Beckenham’s allotment, or community garden, is one of many scattered around the capital where gardeners can grow their own food.

“Everyone is so grateful they can come down here,” said David Arnott, secretary of Wickham Road Allotments. “The slowness of life, the simpler things.”
