ByteDance CEO Zhang Yiming announced he is stepping down and will be succeeded by his co-founder and head of human resources Rubo Liang in an internal memo seen by Reuters on Thursday.
Several other CEOs of Chinese companies have stepped down in recent months. The wave of shake-ups follows Beijing’s latest crackdown on domestic internet giants.
