California lawmakers on Thursday approved the first ever state-funded basic income pilot plan in the United States. The $35 million tax-payer funded program will provide monthly cash payments to qualified people for two years. There will be no additional requirements of recipients.
Opponents say the program will undermine incentives to work and people’s upward mobility.
