California officials are pushing through a $20,000 reward as they seek information about whoever pushed a boulder onto a highway, ultimately killing a man.

Supervisor Kathryn Barger introduced a motion to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, March 20, asking for the $20,000 reward to be funded and approved, reported ABC 7. The motion was unanimously approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, reported KTLA.

The 35-pound boulder was intentionally dropped off a freeway overpass in Pasadena one week prior to the introduction of the motion, on March 13.

“This was an intentional act. Any prudent person would know that a boulder that size would seriously harm someone driving on the freeway below,” California Highway Patrol Lt. Chuck Geletko said.

Christopher Lopez, 23, was riding in the passenger seat of a car his pregnant wife Guadalupe Gutierrez was driving and was slammed directly by the boulder.

He was killed.

Gutierrez broke into tears at a press conference held soon after the death, urging members of the public to come forward if they had any information.

Lopez left Gutierrez, the unborn baby, and a 4-year-old daughter behind.

“We’re asking for your help. If anybody saw anything, please help us find whoever did this to him. He didn’t deserve this. My daughter didn’t deserve this,” she said, reported WSMV.

The public is asked to contact the California Highway Patrol, Altadena Area office with any information at (626) 296-8100.

A GoFundMe fundraising page has been launched to raise money for the family as well.

“Last night my compadre Cris was killed instantly while Lupe was driving. Someone threw a heavy rock from a freeway bridge and landed on Cris breaking his jaw and all his chest bones. He is survived by his wife Lupe, his daughter Jayleen, his family and friends,” wrote Paola Herrera Freyre, a family member.

“We are asking for any donations possible. He was a good person who loved his family. He was killed, an innocent man and I hope we’re able to catch whoever did this to him.”

She added, “This will cover everything from the funeral costs to everything Jayleen and the new baby needs. We need to help Lupe out as much as we can as it’s going to be a difficult uprising of the two kids. We appreciate all the help. Thank you again.”
