California Governor Gavin Newsom announced plans for new lockdown measures. Residents in Los Angeles criticized the governor after he recently violated his own orders.

The latest constraints were unveiled as virus infections and hospitalizations rise in the state.

Some residents expressed confusion and frustration at the new orders on Los Angeles’ Sunset Boulevard.

LA resident Elizabeth Barclay said people had lost confidence in Governor Newsom after he was recently photographed at a restaurant with members of other households, in violation of his own guidelines.

“Like it felt a little weird to have, you know, outdoor dining and the stay-at-home orders being enforced but then Gavin Newsom was dining at the French Laundry, inside,” said Barclay.

The state documented a record on Wednesday alone: over 18,500 new cases.

The new restrictions will represent the most stringent social-distancing rules anywhere in the United States.

Newsom imposed the country’s first statewide lockdown in March.
