Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President François Hollande, and Britain’s Princes Charles, William, and Harry visited Vimy Ridge ahead of a ceremony to mark a historic event.

They were there to commemorate the fallen Canadian soldiers who fought there during World War I. A commemoration ceremony will mark 100 years since the Battle of Vimy Ridge took place. The ceremony was expected to draw 25,000 spectators.

In 1917 3,500 Canadians lost their lives fighting German forces. The Canadian forces were fighting for the British Empire at the time. Vimy Ridge is located in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France.
