Canadian coast guard rescues ocean racers

The Canadian coast guard is heading to sea to rescue sailboats attempting a trans-Atlantic race.

The Royal Western Yacht Club’s trans-Atlantic race hit bad weather.

Twenty-one one- and two-person boats departed Plymouth, England, on May 29 headed for Rhode Island, USA, a journey that could take a few weeks.

The boats, between 27 and 60 feet long, met 50-foot waves and 80 mph winds.

At least one boat sank, and three others were badly damaged.

No injuries have been reported.
