Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr prepare for Las Vegas match

Canelo Alvarez is set to take on his next challenger, Julio César Chávez Jr.

Alvarez is the clear favorite, hoping to keep Chavez, Jr., son of boxing legend Julio César Chávez, Sr., away from victory.

The two will fight at a catchweight of 164-and-a-half pounds.

Canelo Alvarez, a light middleweight and middleweight two-class title holder, expressed his feelings before the fight.

“Thank you everybody for being here. Thank you for all the support you’ve given the fight. Everything that needed to be done has been done and we’re ready for Saturday night and for a great fight. I’m going to do everything on my side to make sure this is one of the most historic fights in the history of Mexico.”

The fight will take place on Saturday, during the weekend of Mexico’s Cinco de Mayo holiday.

The fight is looked at as an important step for the recognition of Mexican boxers on the international stage.

“The first thing I would tell them is to be proud and be honored that two Mexicans can do good things in another country,” said Alvarez.” We can work hard, put us on the map and show what we can do. So first thing is to be proud. The critics will always be there. Just be proud of it.”
