Winners of the Cannes Film Festival award will walk away with a an award that has 167 diamonds.
“This Palme has been made by several artisans, each of them in their area of excellence, sculptors, polishers, setters, who come from Switzerland as well as from France, so this is a real international partnership, or even galactic because today we have stars constellating the Palme,” said Creation Director Marc Couttet at Chopard Department Of High Jewelry.
Top artisans have revamped the award in celebration of Cannes’s 70th anniversary. The award has always been prestigious, and coveted by the world’s best filmmakers, but never has it contained diamonds, and 167 no less.
The diamond edition of the award is estimated to be worth almost $22,000. Known as the Palme d’Or, the leaf part is made of 118 grams of pure gold and requires 40 hours of work by 7 jewelers.
Expectant filmmakers will join the film festival, which runs May 17 to 28, in hopes of walking away with the award.
