There are serious concerns regarding the southern border due to an expected rise in Mexican cartel violence this year, according to border and security experts. NTD spoke to Jason Johnson, the president of the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund, to find out what this means for Americans, and if the upcoming general election in Mexico might alleviate some of these challenges.
Mr. Johnson said that cartels completely control the border on the Mexican side and significantly control the U.S. side, but that elections in Mexico in 2024 could herald a change in political leadership there, which could lead to better cooperation on cartel-controlled activities such as human trafficking and drug trafficking along the border.
