CCP Expands State Secrets Law for First Time in 10 Years

Beijing has intensified its control over its state secrets law, expanding the definition of sensitive information even further and what it could consider criminal if shared.

The revised law added a new category of restricted information called “work secrets” that China said could “cause certain adverse effects if leaked.” But it didn’t define what qualifies.

U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns recently said in an interview that China is torn between controlling its data and seeking foreign investments.
