Paris’s Grand Palais was transformed into a futuristic No. 5 rocket launch center, as the French luxury powerhouse Chanel presented its Paris Autumn/Winter 2017/18 collection on the closing day of Fashion Week.

A towering Chanel rocket was the focal point of the ready-to-wear show, whose star-studded audience included fashion celebrities Cara Delevingne, Lily-Rose Depp and Anna Wintour, and music personalities Pharrell Williams and Rita Ora.

Models strutted down the catwalk in tweed jackets, sequined suits, oversized aviators and knee-high metallic boots.

Lagerfeld opted for a mix of space odyssey and 1960s-inspired style. Chanel’s signature tweed suits were among the looks, along with cropped jackets and loose coats, with thick headbands on beehive hairdos and short bobs.

The finale was a dramatic blast, as a countdown ensued amid clouds of smoke, before Lagerfeld and his godson Hudson Kroenig emerged to “launch” the rocket.

The models paraded around the No. 5 vessel as it took off, bringing to a close what many speculate could have been one of Lagerfeld’s last shows.

The 83-year-old German designer has been creative director for Chanel since 1983.
