Spring arrives in Washington, D.C., as visitors enjoyed the annual Cherry Blossom Festival over the weekend. Many visitors were delighted by the soft pink blooms and wonderful fragrance in the air.
Locals did notice a difference in the blooms from previous years, perhaps due to the milder winter just past and recent rain that damaged some of the blooms.
The cherry blossom trees were a gift from Japan to the United States in 1912.
The cherry blossom trees currently grow in three National Park Service locations in Washington, including the Tidal Basin, Hains Point, and on the Washington Monument grounds.
