President Donald Trump welcomed World Series champion Chicago Cubs’ manager and several of its players to the White House on Wednesday.
Trump called the Cubs “a great team,” as he met with Cubs’ manager Maddon and some Cubs’ players.
Cubs’ manager Maddon said on Tuesday that the visit was voluntary for the players and not an official trip. He continued to say that he was going to the White House out of respect for the Ricketts family, which owns the Cubs and donated $1 million to Trump’s campaign.
During the visit, the Cubs gave Trump a team jersey with “45” printed in recognition of his status as the 45th U.S. president.
The Cubs visited President Barack Obama at the White House in January after they won the World Series.
Trump also said, during the Cubs’ visit, that the Republican health care effort is “working along very well” and there could be “a big surprise with a great healthcare package.”
