Egyptian-American child aid worker Aya HijazI was arrested in Egypt on false charges. She was acquitted and released after three years.

On Friday, April 21, the day after returning to the United States, she was honored at a meeting with President Trump in the Oval Office.

Hijazl and her Egyptian husband Mohamed Hassanein created a foundation dedicated to helping Egyptian street children. She and her husband and six others were arrested in 2014 on false charges brought by Egyptian authorities.
After spending nearly three years in jail, all eight were acquitted and released.
