Chilean President Michelle Bachelet inaugurated the building of what will be the most advanced telescope in the world.
The telescope is known as the Extremely Large telescope (ELT). It is getting built in Chile’s Atacama Desert, one of the most inhospitable places on the planet. Atacama’s clear skies provide the ideal location needed.
Experts hope to view lives on other worlds. The ELT’s mirror is many times more powerful than any current telescopes.
The telescope should be operational by 2024.
