A top security official in Taiwan said Beijing had internally debated whether to attack Taiwan. He also said Beijing wouldn’t do so before 2024.
National Security Bureau Director-General Chen Mingtong made the remarks on Thursday to Taiwanese lawmakers. But he didn’t say how he knew, nor did he explain why the attack would not be immediate. Beijing didn’t respond to a request for comment.
