China Starts WTO Dispute Over US Chip Export Curbs

America’s semiconductor war with China is heating up. Beijing is launching a dispute against the U.S. at the World Trade Organization, or WTO.

The case is over Washington’s sweeping semiconductor ban. The move aims to prevent Beijing from using American technology to advance its own military, because semiconductors are critical for military technology, from nuclear arms to fighter jets.

Specifically, the new rules block companies from selling advanced computing microchips and chipmaking equipment to China, unless they get a special license.
