China Urges Japan to Halt Chip Export Controls

Beijing is calling on Tokyo to stop its curbs on semiconductor exports to China.

In a Monday statement, China’s commerce ministry called Japan’s decision a “wrongdoing” that “seriously violated” international economic and trade rules.

Earlier this year, Japan joined the U.S. and the Netherlands in limiting sales of chip-making technology to China.

In March, the nation announced restrictions on export of 23 types of semiconductor manufacturing equipment to its neighbor.

Chips remain at the center of the latest tussle between Beijing and Washington.
