A nurse in China found a creative—and unintentionally hilarious—way to communicate with a foreign patient who did not speak Chinese.

An international student was hospitalized in China and set to have surgery the next day, according to a Reddit post by WaspDog on Jan. 28. However the nurse couldn’t speak English, so they decided to communicate in writing.

The nurse wrote and illustrated the student’s medical instructions in the short note below.

Evidently, the nurse was meaning to convey: no eating or drinking after 10 p.m., and that the surgery had been scheduled for 8 a.m. the next day.

The well-intentioned message garnered a whole host of comical interpretations on Reddit.

It is unclear what happened to the patient the next morning. But at the very least, the note will be able to serve as evidence.
