A Chinese official in charge of Taiwan affairs was jailed over graft on April 20.
Gong Qinggai, a former deputy head of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, was sentenced to 15 years for taking bribes and abusing of power. He used his position to amass $770,000 (5.3 million yuan) in illegal assets during his nine years in office, according to the court in Henan Province.
Gong was initially accused of the crimes by the state prosecutor in December 2016.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping launched an anti-corruption campaign when he came into office in 2013. Since then, many officials in the Chinese Communist Party have been jailed for corruption.
