Chinese Tech Giants have registered patents for tools that can identify, track, and monitor China’s Uighur Muslims. Human rights groups fear it could be used to suppress the group even more.

The AI technology is used in surveillance cameras and facial recognition networks. IPVM says that many top Chinese security camera companies have provided “Uighur analytics.”

IPVM jointly published its findings with the BBC this week. They found 12 government projects from the past few years that mandate Uighur analytics around the country. It shows that the Chinese regime is profiling Uyghurs way beyond just the Xinjiang region.

The UN estimates that over a million Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities are being detained in internment camps.

This week the United States banned cotton and tomato imports from the region amid forced labor concerns.
