Chinese Web Censors Target 1989 Massacre Anniversary

Saturday marked a busy day for Chinese internet censors—the 33rd anniversary of the Tiananmen Massacre.

On the night of June 4th, 1989, Chinese troops opened fire to end the student-led unrest protests over anti-corruption and democracy.

It happened in and around Tiananmen Square—the center of Beijing.

China has never provided a full death toll for the event, but rights groups and witnesses say the figure could run into the thousands.
