A veterinarian surgeon has to make a vital decision that could change his patient’s life: a poor little stray cat who lost his legs in an accident. No one else but he had to decide, and the choice was obvious; the vet finally makes the decision which he surely did not regret.
This happened in Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital. A little kitty named Pooh, was brought in by a kind woman, who had the presence of mind, and the kindness in her heart, to rush the kitten to a clinic. No one witnessed it, but it seemed like the cat was hit either by a car or a train and was in a pitiable condition.
Surgeon Vladislav Zlatinov was the vet who attended to him. The hind limbs were in a terrible mess, and the only thing he could think of was amputate the back legs high up on the limbs. If that did not work, the only other alternative was euthanasia, a choice no vet with a conscience would want to make.
Pooh, a stray cat, after her hind legs were amputated.
Zlatinov had himself never done this before, but had heard of a possibility. He strongly felt inclined to try giving the unfortunate cat a new life by attaching prosthetics — giving Pooh new legs.
“I had the vague idea that this is done, but it sounded impossible for our practice,” Zlatinov said. “But I wanted to try.”
After saving his life, Zlatinov decided to do something more to add life to his life.
Zlatinov decided to attach prosthetics, giving Pooh new legs.
“I had the vague idea that this is done, but it sounded impossible for our practice.”
“But I wanted to try.” And it worked. “He’s doing surprisingly well so far.”
“Pooh can move freely on flat surfaces — walking, running, even making small jumps…”
“What’s important is that he doesn’t seem to be in pain.”
“We’re very proud… It was quite a success… It gives hope to other patients.”
As for Pooh, the cat waiting at a rescue shelter for another kind heart to come and adopt her.
