A heated debate was ignited on Twitter after CNN anchor Chris Cuomo retweeted an NRA ad where rape survivor Kimberly Corban speaks in support of upholding the second amendment after recounting her horrible experience of being raped when she was 20 years old.
“I woke up in the middle of the night, suffocating, ‘shut up,’ he said, ‘don’t say a word.’ For the next two hours, I knew I was going to die, and there was nothing I could do. Now I’m a mother of two, and if that predator or anyone else tries to harm me or my family, they have to come through my firearm first. I will never be unarmed or utterly vulnerable ever again. The only reason I can say that is because the NRA fought for my rights before I ever knew that I needed them. I’m the National Rifle Association of America, and I’m freedom’s safest place,” said Corban.
Cuomo retweeted the post on May 29, writing “Only in America.”

This generated a deluge of comments where Cuomo was criticized harshly by some who said that he appeared to be mocking Corban and accused him of being in favor of her being defenseless against rapists.
Twitter user Caleb Hull said, “I guess you’re cool with women being defenseless against rapists?”

Corban herself responded to the post, aking him, “Care to chat about this?”
Hi @ChrisCuomo. Looks like you forgot to tag me. Care to chat about this?

Another Twitter user, Rob, commented on what is perhaps to some, the crux of the matter.
and they the leftwing would rather eliminate guns all together institute their authoritarian power structure and crush The People without a fight

The second amendment, which grants self-protection, is intended to serve as a guarantee for U.S. citizens to protect themselves from the possibility of government tyranny. It has been under siege for a long time, with CNN often at the forefront of a push toward gun control.
One of the most epitomic gun ban debates happened on 2013, live on CNN between Piers Morgan and Ben Shapiro.
Later on May 29, Cuomo responded to some of the commentators on Twitter, including Janice Dean from Fox News.
1/2 You are right. No offense intended. Too short on twitter. “Only in America” are we still debating the legitimate right to protect oneself like you and many others vs sensible way to keep guns from wrong people. Only here can we not address the issues around school shootings https://t.co/74s8RxcHgo

Dean wrote, “You might want explain this tweet a little better to those of us who’ve actually had to face predators in our own homes and defend ourselves without a big strong man like yourself.”
Cuomo responded, “You are right. No offense intended. Too short on Twitter. ‘Only in America’ are we still debating the legitimate right to protect oneself like you and many others vs sensible way to keep guns from wrong people.”
Washington Examiner reporter Jerry Dunleavy noted that Cuomo was responding to many people except for Kim Corban.

Dean suggested that Cuomo should apologize to Corban to which Cuomo responded, “Of course I apologized for this negative attention that was not intended. You asked a question and I answered. That’s what should happen. This place and sadly this issue brings out the worst in too many. No need. Not helpful,” Cuomo wrote on Twitter.

Dean’s answer was rather amusing.
We’re done. I’ll apologize to @Kimberly_Corban for you.
