A Colorado mother died just hours after giving birth to healthy twins.

Sara Sewald was bleeding and went into surgery; she didn’t come out alive.

“They had mentioned that she had had a little bit of bleeding, you know, and they were going to do what they could to stop it. So, you know, I wasn’t really too nervous. They said not to worry, it’s kind of normal and we have it under control,” Sewald’s boyfriend Dustin Sisneros told KKTV about the situation on May 29.

The couple was together for about three-and-a-half years when they learned Sewald was pregnant.

“When we found out it was twins it was kind of overwhelming but we were really excited for our blessings,” Sisneros said.

When they went for a check-up one day, the doctor saw swelling and told them to go to a hospital. Sewald was scheduled for a C-section the next day.

Sisneros said they were both excited that day and that he was in the delivery room for the birth.

The twins emerged healthy but Sewald was rushed into surgery after they were born, and ultimately died.

Sisneros said that he’s been visiting the twins, who are still in the hospital, each day since the birth.

“It just makes my heart happy whenever I see them. I go in there and I talk to them and they kind of—they know my voice and they open their eyes and they’re just the most beautiful thing. Charlotte resembles Sara in so many ways,” he said, adding that he’ll tell the twins about their mother throughout their lives.

“It was just horrible to see her like that, you know. She was just looking so forward to seeing our babies and raising them together,” Sisneros said, according to CBS Denver. “I’m just going to be sure to tell them that their mama is going to be with us every step of the way and she may not be here now but she is watching and looking down on us from heaven.”

Sisneros also said he and Sewald’s family appreciates the support that people have shown. Friends set up a GoFundMe fundraiser for him to help him financially.

“Sara gave birth to beautiful, healthy twins (Charlotte and Ryan) on 05/29/19. Sadly, Sara passed away several hours later due to complications following her pregnancy. As a now single parent of two, Dustin will need all the support he can get from friends and family to help him get ahead emotionally, as well as financially. We are praying for Dustin and his family during this difficult time and any support from you all will be greatly appreciated,” they wrote.

Over $35,000 has been raised in four days and garnered $10,000 in less than 24 hours.

Sisneros wrote a message to supporters on June 2: “This is just absolutely blowing my mind. I can not even begin to thank you all enough. This is just beyond amazing. All of the funds will go to my babies. And only them,” he said.

“I am more than ok to work and do what I need to do to have money in my pocket for myself and my family but every single cent will go to my babies. They deserve the world. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR BEING THEIR FOR MY CHARLOTTE AND RYAN AND MY Sara Louise.”
