Police have identified and apprehended a person of interest in the case of a 13-year-old girl who was threatened with a machete before being raped in a park in Flushing, New York City last Thursday. Members of the community and state government candidates rallied Monday to call for better protection of children. A number of parents said they no longer feel safe letting their children play outside alone. They called for more police, more security cameras, and harsher punishments for criminals, while decrying no-cash bail and the defunding of the NYPD.
