The documents show that EcoHealth Alliance, a U.S.-based health organization, used federal money to fund research into bat coronaviruses at the Chinese lab.
The disclosure seems to contradict claims by Dr. Anthony Fauci and NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins. Both have said that the grants did not back gain-of-function research.
Three Republican lawmakers, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.), Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.), and Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.), released a statement saying, “These NIH grant documents further indicate that Dr. Fauci and Dr. Collins have broken trust with the American people.”
