Congresswoman-Elect Fills Late Husband’s Seat in Louisiana Special Election

Julia Letlow made history by winning a special election in Louisiana’s 5th district. The congresswoman-elect will fill the seat of her late husband, Luke, who won the election in November but passed away just before being sworn into office.

Shortly after her husband passed away, Letlow said she felt a “calling” and “peace from the Lord” that pushed her to run for office. Letlow ran as a pro-life constitutionalist who says she will protect the rights of her constituents.

She received an official endorsement from former President Donald Trump on March 10 that sought to propel her to victory. Congresswoman-Elect Letlow says she’ll focus her attention on promoting agriculture in her district because of the state’s prominence on the Mississippi River. She also said she will help jobs and small businesses grow.
