Poland and other nations on Thursday pledged to phase out their use of coal-fired power and stop building new plants. COP26 host Britain described the non-binding commitment as putting the end of coal “in sight.” But on the other side of the planet, more coal power stations are opening up. Largely due to China’s coal-fuelled industry, global CO-2 emissions have been rapidly rebounding to pre-pandemic level.
