Francesco Schettino, captain of the Costa Concordia cruise ship, is going to jail for 16 years.
Schettino lost his appeal of his 2015 manslaughter conviction.
He was also convicted of causing a shipwreck and abandoning passengers.
He was at the helm of the Costa Concordia when it ran aground and capsized.

He and his crew sailed off in a lifeboat while many passengers were still on board.
Schettino’s lawyer says he might appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.
