Walker Hayes, a country singer, said in a statement that his newborn daughter has died.

Hayes, 38, said in a statement posted on social media websites that he and his wife Laney were mourning the loss of the girl.

“It is with great sadness that Laney and I share with you the news that our sweet Oakleigh Klover Hayes was born this morning at the hospital and now is safely in heaven,” Hayes said. “Thank you for honoring our privacy as we grieve.”

Hayes and his wife have six children, three daughters and three sons, who range in age from 2 to 11, according to People Magazine.

Hayes told the magazine in December that his children were one of his “favorite things about life.”

“I love each and every one of these kids and I can’t wait for another one,” he said. “They’re all so beautiful and incredible, and watching them grow is the best thing I get to do on earth.”

Hayes said that his upcoming concerts have been canceled so that he can be at home with his wife and their children during the difficult time.

Hayes had been scheduled to perform at the CMT Awards on Wednesday and was nominated for the award breakthrough video of the year for his video for “You Broke Up With Me.”

The tour dates on Hayes’ website indicate that the singer was traveling through the midwest, with dates in Minnesota and Iowa previously scheduled over the next several days.

It’s not clear how many of his dates have been canceled.
