Ferrets are adorable! As pets they are high energy, intelligent and social with an average lifespan of of 7-10 years.
Ferrets are actually domesticated European polecats with a 2,500 year history.
Sleeping a whopping 18 hours a day, they tend to be most active at dawn or dusk. In six hour sleep rotations, they wake up to eat and play. Then back to sleep they go.
They are carnivores, and come in black, brown, white or mixed fur.
Ferrets are well-known for their unique so-called “weasel war dance”, which consists of sideways hops, leaps and bumping into nearby objects. Despite its aggressive name, this is a joyful invitation to play instead of fighting.
