Dad recovering from 3 brain-cancer surgeries is wheeled from ICU to labor room for his son’s birth!

Pregnancy and childbirth are pretty much the defining moments of any parents’ life. But for this couple, as the day of their newborn’s arrival came closer, fate has decided to give them the most wicked twist.

Jessica Li and Cagney Wenk were preparing themselves for a momentous event, the birth of their first child. Merely three weeks before the expected child birth, Cagney was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer.

Deep in the right lobe of his brain, Cagney was suffering from stage four Glioblastoma – a cancerous brain tumor. They had waited so long to hold their baby, but just a couple of weeks before that precious moment, Cagney was hospitalized to go through three brain surgeries.

On Sept. 18, 2016, when Jessica started active labor Cagney was in the ICU of the Boulder Community Health Foothills Hospital in Colorado.

The thoughtful nurses of the ICU decided to do something extra to this expecting family; so they reached out to a professional photographer, Sarah Boccolucci, to capture the birth of their new born alongside the father in the labor room.

Cagney’s nurse wheeled him from the ICU to the labor room, with his medicine and all his medical equipment.

Still recovering and groggy from the operations, an emotional dad who is fighting for survival from a deadly disease, watched his son being born, and the moment the baby cried for the first time, he burst in to tears too.

Then he cut his son Levon Robbie Wenk’s umbilical cord himself after doctors made sure his hands are wiped to make sterilized.

There was so much love and compassion in the labor room, and Cagney and Jessica are extremely thrilled and happy to welcome their son, Levon, to the family, everyone is optimistic about the new dad’s health.

We wish them the best of luck! Indeed their baby is like a beacon of hope.
