Police in Statesville, North Carolina have arrested a daycare worker on charges that she abused a 22-month-old boy.

Police reviewed video from the daycare’s security cameras before arresting Lori Fisher Turner and charging her with simple assault on a child under 12, the Winston-Salem Journal reported.

The Charlotte Observer reported that Fisher Turner had worked at Future Generations for 11 years.

Child Acting Strangely

The mother of the abused child, Jennifer Sanchez, enrolled her 22-month-old son at Future Generations Child Development daycare center while she was looking for new employment.

When Sanchez picked up her son on the evening of Nov. 8, she felt that her son was acting oddly.

Upon examining her son, she found what looked like palm prints and scratches.

Sanchez photographed the marks on her son and took him to a hospital for treatment.

“You see these things on TV, but you never think it would hit home,” Sanchez told WSOC-TV.

“He had scratch marks under his arm and then on his stomach. So, it was very heart-wrenching to think how could someone do this to a child.”

Video Evidence

WYFF News reported that the video showed Fisher Turner slapping the child twice.

“It was gut-wrenching that, how, that was his very first day, how could you do that to a child?” Sanchez said.

“It just appears that he was hit two times on his leg; pop, pop. He was lying on a cot, kept getting off the cot and I think that’s why they got frustrated with him.”

The daycare center’s owner reviewed the video and fired the employee.

“We checked the video out made immediate action to correct the action, yes,” said Future Generations director Latonya Graham. “We’ve never had an incident like this before.”

State records show that Future Generations is listed as a four-star facility with a Superior rating.

Fisher Turner was issued a $1,000 bond.
