DC Sues Grubhub for ‘Misleading’ Marketing

Washington, D.C.’s attorney general is suing delivery service Grubhub. He says Grubhub exploited local restaurants, charged hidden fees, and used deceptive marketing tactics during the COVID-19 pandemic. He accuses the company of doing this to increase profits at the expense of consumers and local small businesses.

The attorney general alleges that Grubhub ran promotions that falsely claimed to help struggling restaurants in March and April of 2020. He also says Grubhub failed to disclose that prices were higher in the app than at restaurants, listed restaurants that did not sign up for the platform, and deceptively advertised free online ordering.
