Punta Gorda, FL—Detectives are investigating a dead body that was found on the morning of July 30 outside the Charlotte County Jail visitation center.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, morning patrols found the body in the bench area outside the building, which is an outlying building on the jail property near the Punta Gorda Airport.
They say the benches are frequently used as a waiting area for recently released detainees or people waiting to pick up pending releases. At this time it does not appear that there was any other person involved in the death.
The Major Crimes Unit are currently investigating the death.

Jail visitation will be closed until the scene is cleared. Those wishing to attend visitation should plan for after 1:00pm.
