Remember when a marriage proposal was short, sweet, and to the point? Remember when they typically didn’t include more than two people? Well, those days are over.
Now, it seems like every marriage proposal is more elaborate than the last, and Dean Smith’s proposal to his girlfriend was no different.
Smith’s marriage proposal of epic proportions began when he and his girlfriend, Jennifer, took a birthday trip with her family to Aruba. Before the birthday dinner Jennifer’s sister presented her with a whiteboard that instructed her to go to the lobby of the hotel. There, she was met by her brother who had a similar whiteboard telling her to go to the bar.
Hmmm …
She was then told to go to the beach for her birthday surprise. There she found her father and step-mother waiting to give her an iPad that had a special birthday message on it.
She sat down with her back to the water and put the headphones in so she could watch the video message from her boyfriend.
In the video Smith started out showing a recent clip of himself—but then cut to a clip he recorded a year earlier.
“Jennifer, I love you more than anything in the world.”
And here’s where you’ll need the tissues.
Smith tells Jennifer through the video that he knows he wants to spend the rest of his life with her so for the past year he’s been showing her how much he loves her.
Every single day for the past year Smith took a video of himself holding up a sign asking Jennifer to spend the rest of her life with him.
He asked Jennifer to marry him …
While he ate breakfast,
When he was on a plane,
While sporting a bow tie,
And even with Jennifer in the background.
It all led up to the 365th day, when he asked her in person, “Jennifer, will you marry me?”
