Death toll from London fire rises to 17

London police and fire authorities have confirmed a total of 17 deaths in the apartment tower fire. That number is expected to rise once the fire brigade can access the full area.

Dany Cotton, commissioner of the London Fire Brigade, spoke about the uncertainty of the situation.

“We are unaware of how many people are in the building. As you can appreciate it’s a very large building with a large number of people in there. There are some people who might have lived alone, who we are not sure are in there or are away with friends or family. There are people who are reported missing who subsequently might have been in rest centers or hospitals. So we are completely unaware at the moment,” he said.
