An emergency meeting of Group of Seven (G-7) nations was held on the crisis in Afghanistan. One of the goals was to delay the Aug. 31 U.S. troop withdrawal. President Joe Biden says he’s sticking to that timeline. Some are raising concerns that it’s not enough time to get everyone out. Now, amid the scenes coming out of Afghanistan, there have been comparisons to Vietnam, namely the fall of Saigon.
As one of his last roles as New York governor, Andrew Cuomo granted clemency to six people. He also said the findings from the state investigation into his conduct were not fair. The probe concluded that he sexually harassed at least 11 women. Cuomo has denied all of the allegations—saying he never touched anyone inappropriately—but acknowledged that some of his behavior made others uncomfortable. Although they no longer plan to impeach Cuomo, lawmakers in the state Assembly said they would still publish a report once they conclude their investigation. And the issue of why Cuomo’s administration withheld data regarding the true extent of nursing home deaths from COVID-19 is also being investigated.
Tens of millions of private records have been exposed after a massive data leak affecting American Airlines, New York’s MTA, and public health agencies. The information includes COVID-19 vaccination testing data. Dozens of major companies, state and federal agencies, and other organizations were impacted.
