Deepening Russia–China Ties Forcing Nations to Choose Between Global South, Global West: Former Intel Officer

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Beijing Thursday, with his visit to China symbolic of deepening ties between the two countries as tensions with the West grow. During his two-day visit, Mr. Putin spoke with Chinese regime leader Xi Jinping about trade, energy, and security. They also discussed the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, as well as Taiwan’s sovereignty.

Russia said it would welcome China playing a role in bringing a diplomatic resolution to the war with Ukraine. This comes after Russia launched a surprise attack across the border into northeastern Ukraine this month, with Ukrainian civilians reportedly trying to flee the Kharkiv region.
