Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) grilled Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin during a Thursday House Committee hearing over the latter’s failure to inform President Joe Biden of his hospitalization and absence from his post in the early days of January, 2024.
Mr. Banks criticized a report on the situation, which he said sought to shift the blame onto DoD staff members. He also asked who would be held accountable for the incident, calling Austin’s decisions at the time and the ripple effects thereafter an embarrassment to the United States.
