Demonstrators battle police in Venezuela capital

Protesters in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, clashed with police on Friday, April 7.

Protesters threw stones and gasoline bombs while police used tear gas and water cannons to drive the demonstrators off the streets.

The demonstrators are outraged by the Supreme Court taking over Congress.

The demonstrators, who support Congress, say it is the first step towards dictatorship.

Most of Congress opposes President Nicolas Maduro.

Under Maduro, Venezuela suffers triple-digit inflation, shortage of food and medicine,

and one of the highest murder rates in the world

Maduro blames a U.S.-backed business elite is responsible for Venezuela’s economic downturn.
