The nation’s top intelligence official says the Chinese regime is the greatest threat to the United States and the free world.

Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe wrote a commentary in the Wall Street Journal on Thursday. He said he has “access to more intelligence than any member of the U.S. government other than the president.”

He says this gives him a unique vantage point, and the intelligence is clear: Beijing wants to dominate the United States and the rest of the world.

He pointed out that the U.S. now faces a choice between two of what he called “incompatible ideologies.”

Adding that the country will be judged by how we respond to China’s effort to replace America as the dominant superpower.

Also in the commentary, he revealed the Chinese Communist Party is targeting U.S. Congressmembers with 6 times the frequency of Russia and 12 times more than Iran.

In an interview with CBS News, Ratcliffe described what’s behind Beijing’s aggressive approach.

“They want laws and policies out of the United States that are favorable to China, and what they’re really trying to do is through blackmail, through bribery, through overt and covert influence, trying to make sure that only laws that are favorable to China are passed,” said Ratcliffe.

He added that communist China is the greatest challenge that the U.S. has faced since World War II, saying, “Every generation has a challenge—Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, the Iron Curtain. This generation’s challenge is China’s intent to replace the United States as the world’s superpower.”
