What is this animal?

After being found under a car in the Windermere area, the mystery animal was brought in to the “Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge,” where it was named “Dobby” after the Harry Potter elf.

According to its website, the non-profit organization is dedicated to “rescue, raise, rehabilitate and release injured or orphaned Florida Native species.”

The organization attracted a lot of attention on social media by asking people to guess the mystery animal.

“Everything from a bear to a chupacabra, wallabe,” said Debbie Helsel.

In fact, it is a raccoon.

It’s a hairless raccoon, and a raccoon which Debbie Helsel, the executive director of an organisation that cares for hundreds of raccoons every year, has never seen before.

“While she looked really cool, at the same time she kind of grabbed you because of the condition she was in,” said Debbie.

The raccoon is emaciated and is struggling to stay alive. Despite getting vet care, the nicknamed “Dobby” animal is unlikely to ever return back to the wild. However, many people are rooting for her, and a team of people is working on saving her life.
