A Syrian doctor treating victims of the Idlib gas attack said the chemical agent was not chlorine gas.

Dr. Abdulhai Tennari, a pulmonary specialist, said he was quite familiar with the effects of chlorine gas, as he had seen the regime use it many times before. Whatever the Syrian jets dropped this time, it was something new to him.

Tennari described patients with symptoms of paralysis and extreme secretions from the mucous membranes.

The gas interfered with signals from the nerves to the muscles. The lungs filled with fluid. The victims drowned.

Some doctors believe a mixture of toxic gases was used.

The World Health Organization and the international medical charity Doctors Without Borders agreed that the symptoms were consistent with some types of nerve gas.

Sarin nerve gas was one of the first chemical weapons suspected.

Syria’s government continues to deny using any chemical agents, despite all evidence.
