Stellantis, Chrysler’s parent company, is recalling 52,431 vehicles—two Dodge models and an Alfa Romeo model.
In a first recall notification issued through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Chrysler said 20,755 Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale SUVs were potentially susceptible to a brake pedal failure.
Potentially affected vehicles are 16,960 Dodge Hornets manufactured in 2024 and 3,795 Alfa Romeo Tonales manufactured in 2024-2025.
The notification said that an estimated percentage of the 20,755 vehicles that had the defect was 5 percent.
According to the NHTSA, suspect brake pedal assemblies were installed during production starting July 20, 2023, up until July 18, 2024. These pedal assemblies may collapse during normal operations.
“The inability to activate the service brakes while driving can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning,” Stellantis wrote in the recall notification.
“In the event of brake pedal failure, the Electronic Park Brake, located on the center console, can be used while driving to slow the vehicle to a controlled stop. Also, the Automatic Emergency Braking system, when active, will intervene when it detects a collision is imminent,” the company said.
The problem was first detected on Sept. 27, when Stellantis’ customer service was processing a European warranty case of a collapsed brake pedal. Since then, 12 field reports related to this issue have been collected globally.
Stellantis Europe said it is only aware of one accident, with zero injuries and fatalities related to this issue for all markets.
Owners of the potentially affected vehicles will be notified on Oct. 24.
Dealers will reinforce the brake pedal arm by adding a bolt and nut, Stellantis said.
Second Notice
In a second notice, Stellantis issued the recall for 31,676 Dodge Ram 1500 Classic pickup trucks.
“Some 2020 through 2023 MY Ram 1500 Classic trucks equipped with a driver side heated trailer tow rearview mirror may experience a detached glass from the backing plate,” Stellantis wrote.
“Detached driver side mirror glass reduces visibility and could result in a vehicle crash without prior warning,” the recall report read.
Stellantis became aware of the problem on July 21, 2023. An analysis was conducted from July 2023, through September 2024, to map mirror glass failure patterns and vehicle history.
Using part shipment information and vehicle production records, it was determined that suspect mirror assemblies were installed in Chrysler’s Saltillo and Warren truck assembly plants between September 2020 and April 2023.
Owners will be notified on Dec. 5 and 6. A new heated trailer tow mirror glass that is properly adhered to the mirror backing plate will be installed free of charge.
